My Own Personal Review of the Miken Maniac 585
The new Maniac 585 is heavy... Thats the first thing I noticed about the 28oz when I started swinging it, I felt like it was slow coming thru the zone... But then again, maybe Im just getting weaker... I put away the 28oz and went to a 27oz and started absolutely mashing the ball. The bat swings a lot like the Freak+, but feels different in the way the ball comes off the bat. It looks slower coming off the bat, but seems to travel very close in distance. I would say it is kind of decieving the way the ball comes off. The 585 is not quite the bat that the Freak or Freak Plus is/was but is very close. For something that is legal everywhere but ASA, it does what you would expect. It outhits its little brother the 484, and definately out performs the previous release of the Edge or Velocit-E 2... The overall feel is good, but heavy... I personally went down to a 27oz, and it felt just perfect. The durability was good, and after 500+ hits there wasnt even a composite rattle.
